Come spend two hours at the Herbal Studio of Blossomwood Farmstead for Introduction to Western Herbalism. Clinical herbalist L. Leland will introduce some common herbs, guide you through demonstrations and tastings of different preparations of herbal remedies, and share trustworthy references for continued learning.

We will sit together for a meditation with a flower essence. Students will be invited to bring home a flower essence to continue their work with it.

Participants will learn where flower essences come from, how they are traditionally made, and how people incorporate them into daily routines. We’ll touch on historical influences—from Dr. Bach’s remedies to other global traditions—and discuss ways to mindfully select and use flower essences. This class is perfect for those curious about subtle plant-based practices and cultivating a deeper awareness of plants and self.


Plant Sit Meditation

Slow down and connect with plants in this guided experience. Through simple meditation, observation, and reflection, participants will spend time “sitting” with different plants to notice their presence, qualities, and history. You’ll also learn basic background information about each plant, including traditional uses and folklore. This class is ideal for beginners and plant lovers alike who want to deepen their connection with nature in a calm, approachable way.


Herbal Support for Focus, Calm, and Daily Balance

This class explores how people commonly use herbs to support focus, emotional balance, rest, and overall well-being. We’ll discuss gentle herbs often used for calming the nervous system, supporting energy, and creating soothing daily routines. You will get a chance to taste a variety of herbal digestive remedies!


Herbs for Love, Connection & Self-Care

This welcoming, inclusive class explores how herbs have long been associated with love, pleasure, and emotional connection. Participants will learn about herbs traditionally used to support relaxation, intimacy, and heart-centered self-care. The class focuses on communication, consent, and self-awareness, while sharing ideas for herbal baths, teas, and body care rituals that support connection—with oneself or others. We will share samples of different herbal remedies that we learn about.


Myths, Legends & Herbal Allies

Step into the stories behind the plants. This class explores myths, folklore, and legends connected to familiar herbs like yarrow, rosemary, and hawthorn. Through storytelling and discussion, we’ll examine how plants have been symbolically linked to protection, love, and transformation across cultures. You’ll also learn simple, practical ways people still use these plants today. Perfect for lovers of history, myth, and nature.


Creating Herb-Infused Oils

In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to make herbal-infused oils for skin care and massage. We’ll cover easy infusion methods, choosing quality ingredients, and using your oils safely. Participants will leave with practical skills and ideas for incorporating herbal oils into everyday self-care. We will sample a range of herb-infused oils during the class.


Herbal Tincture Making (Beginner Level)

This introductory class covers the basics of making herbal tinctures at home. Participants will learn what tinctures are, how they’re commonly used, and the general process for creating them using alcohol. For this class, we will focus on folkloric tinctures made with 80 proof alcohol, which is commonly available in stores. Students will get to sample a wide range of tinctures.


Herbal Tincture Making (Intermediate: Ratio Method)

Designed for those with some tincture-making experience, this class explores the ratio method for creating more precise herbal extracts. Participants will learn how to work with fresh and dried herbs, calculate ratios, and deepen their understanding of tincture strength, dosage, and consistency. Students will get hands-on experience making their own ratio method tincture to take home. Beginner level tincture-making class or equivalent experience is required.


Crafting Herbal Tea Blends

Explore the art of making herbal tea blends for comfort and wellness. Learn how to combine herbs to create blends that support some basic functional needs. We’ll cover three different methods to create beautiful water extractions — and we’ll taste them! This class is perfect for tea lovers who want to deepen their understanding of herbs in a practical and delicious way.


Herbal Vinegars: Everyday Remedies from the Kitchen

Learn how to make herbal vinegars using fresh and dried plants for both culinary and wellness purposes. This class covers selecting herbs, infusion methods, and simple ways to use herbal vinegars to support digestion, mineral intake, and flavorful meals.


Infused Honey: Sweet Herbal Medicine

Explore the tradition of infusing herbs into honey for everyday wellness and enjoyment. Participants will learn how to choose herbs, properly infuse honey, and use infused honey in teas, home remedies, and self-care rituals.

Join us for a guided walk exploring the identification of plants that grow in our habitat. You’ll learn how to identify common herbs and hear about their historical and functional roles. This walk is designed for beginners and nature lovers who want to better understand the plant life around them through the lens of Western herbalism.


The Magical & Symbolic Uses of Plants in the West

This class explores how plants have been used symbolically and ritually across Western cultures and history. We’ll discuss herbs associated with protection, cleansing, seasonal traditions, and intention-setting, while keeping the focus grounded, respectful, and approachable. Participants will learn simple ways to engage with plant symbolism as part of personal reflection or seasonal practices.


Honey as a Remedy

Discover honey’s long history as a food, remedy, and cultural treasure. This class covers honey varieties, quality, and ethical sourcing, along with traditional ways people use honey in home remedies like herbal syrups and oxymels. We’ll also touch on the role of bees and sustainability. A sweet and informative class for all levels — with tastings!
