FAQ

Clinical Herbalist FAQ

Are you interested in working with me as an herbalist? Great! Let me answer some frequently asked questions for you…

How do I book an appointment?

Send me an email to schedule. Please email: herbalist.LLeland at gmail dot com to schedule. Include a sentence or two about your health goals or concerns.

How much does it cost?

Initial intake appointments are up to two hours long and are $120. Follow up appointments are up to one hour and are $60. These prices include the additional time I will use to research, formulate, and communicate with you about your herbal remedies. Any herbs you would like to purchase will be charged separately. Payment is due when scheduling.

What if I can’t afford that?

If the above prices are out of your range, you can alternatively book an initial intake appointment with me through the Berkeley Herbal Center for $90. To do this, please email: clinic at herbalist.lleland dot com. In your email please indicate if the appointment will be in person or virtual, and provide a sentence or two about your goals or concerns.

What happens after I book an appointment?

After we have an appointment scheduled, I will email you a few forms to fill out. These include a confidentiality agreement, a constitutional assessment, and a general information form. Please send these back to me as soon as possible, and at least one day prior to our initial appointment.

What does the intake appointment entail?

In this 1.5 to 2 hour appointment we will go over your current health challenges, health history, and I will ask you questions geared toward building an overall holistic viewpoint of your experience as a person including diet, physical movement, spiritual practice, and emotional well-being.

What happens after the intake?

After the intake appointment I will create a customized plan for you. This plan will direct you toward the lifestyle changes and herbs that will help you reach your goals for health and wellness. I will give you all the information needed, including any preparation, frequency of use, and dosage.

Where will I get my herbs?

Herbal remedies may be purchased directly from me, through Berkeley Herbal Center, or from any other source of your choice.

When do we check in again?

After two to six weeks, depending on how acute the issues are, we will have a half hour to hour-long follow-up appointment to check in about how everything is going for you and to make any needed additions or adjustments.

What is in the scope of care offered by herbalism?

As an herbalist I can offer support and relief for a wide variety of health and mental wellness challenges, but please note that as an herbalist I will never claim to cure or diagnose specific medical conditions.

I can offer guidance for diet, sleep habits, physical movement, spiritual practice, rituals, personal development, and of course many ways to incorporate herbs into your life.

Herbal remedies may include tinctures, teas, glycerites, vibrational essences, supplements, and foods. Herbal recommendations can help with healing for many physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges.

I may also refer you to professionals or organizations that can help you with things that are beyond my scope of care, including for body work, acupuncture, psychotherapy, blood work, medical care, or to other specialists as needed.

What health challenges can herbalism address?

Herbalism can help with a wide range of health challenges, including: respiratory issues, digestive disorders, stress and anxiety, depression, sleep issues, skin conditions, uterine health, PMS, immune support, joint and muscle pain, prostate issues, UTIs, recovery after trauma, autoimmunity, STIs, blood sugar regulation, hypertension, and more…

It’s important to note that herbalism does not replace the need for standard medical care, but can work in harmony with it.

What is your specific focus as an herbalist?

My focus is on an inclusive, heart-centered approach that incorporates my clients’ medical history, nutrition, mental health, spirituality, and connection to nature.

I’m specifically interested in helping with anxiety, depression, migraines, natural ADHD management, stress management, digestive support, sexual well-being, and spiritual wellness. My deeper research delves into the intricate relationship between childhood and/or sexual trauma and the related mental and physical health challenges.

I also enjoy helping with a wide variety of other physical and mental health issues as they come up for my clients.

How long does it take to see results with herbal remedies?

The time it takes to see results varies depending on the individual and the nature of the health concern. For example, acute conditions often resolve much more quickly than chronic ailments.

It’s important to remember that herbs do not work the same way as pharmaceuticals (which is a good thing!) We will often be working on shifting the root cause of a health challenge, rather than just addressing the symptoms, which can take more time. Your body also needs time to get to know the plants you are working with.

Consistency and commitment to the herbal plan are essential for ideal results.

Is herbalism safe?

Yes, herbalism is generally safe and supportive as practiced by educated herbalists.

Some herbs do have interactions with medications or require specific dosages in order to be considered safe. It is crucial to communicate openly about any existing health conditions, medications, or allergies to ensure a personalized and safe herbal remedy plan.

It is also important to communicate any potential adverse reactions in a timely manner so that formulas and herbs can be changed as needed. Not all herbs agree with all people.

Will my information be kept confidential?

Yes! I’m absolutely committed to herbalist/client confidentiality. We will both sign a confidentiality agreement that goes into this in more detail. I use a secure portal for record keeping. If I ever speak to another person about our work together, such as your primary care physician, it will always be with your written consent.

I do work with mentors, or may consult with other herbalists on specific questions related to your care. In this case any identifying information will not be included, your complete privacy will always be preserved.

What is the best thing about working with an herbalist?
