Love Cordial Recipe

A love cordial is a simple, time-honored way of working with herbs that brings together nourishment, pleasure, and intention. Traditionally made with herbs, brandy, and honey, these preparations were created “for the heart” (from the Latin: cordialis,) both physically and energetically. They can blend aromatic, warming, and deeply supportive plants into a sweet, luminous elixir. Love cordials can be crafted to open the heart, support vitality, awaken sensuality, or gently nourish the body through times of tenderness and change. Herbs are covered with brandy and left to infuse slowly, allowing their qualities to unfold over time before being finished with honey. The result is something both healing and delicious.

Here’s a Blossomwood Botanicals recipe…

Ingredients

1/3 cup rose petals
1/3 cup hawthorn leaf and flower
1/3 cup raspberry leaf
1/4 cup fresh or dried ginger
one tablespoon hibiscus (roselle)
a few green cardamom pods
4 cups of brandy
(later) honey to taste

Instructions

Put all herbs into a quart size canning jar. Cover with brandy. Place cover on jar and shake. Label and keep in a cool and dry place for 3-4 weeks. Strain, add honey to taste. Enjoy!

You can mix it with sparkling water for a nice bubbly treat.

This is what it should look like after you add the brandy to the herbs and shake it up.

Enjoy! I hope your cordial is delicious!
